The great part in playing a string insturment is the avalibility of string instruments in different sizes. This allows a student to choose the instrument they will like to learn without the limitations of body size getting in the way. Beginning students will be sized by Mr. Liu during the first week of school for the proper fit in order for the student to be successful!
Instruments
River Trail Middle School Orchestra has an inventory of school owned violins, violas, cello, and basses for students to rent for the school year. Please know that depending on the Orchestra enrollment, instrument avaliability is limited. In addition, there are several vendors that specialize in the string instrument and provides instrument rentals.
There are pros and cons for obtaining an instrument from (1) the school, (2) music store, or (3) purchase. Click for more info
Other Equipment and Materials
Below are links to the previous year’s information of what items and equipment students will need in addition to their instrument. It is important that we go through in detail during class the items and materials with students first before families go out and purchase these items.
When do we have instruments, equipment, and materials for Orchestra Class?
Most students should have at least most items on the list by the end August. Ideally, every student should have an instrument ready to play the day after Labor Day in September. Mr. Liu strongly believes that beginning students should have a quality student model instrument that is the correct size, therefore is willing to work with students and families who may need an extended amount of time to obtain an instrument.
