The Orchestra Concert is the essential part of orchestra. It is the culmination and demonstration of all the different elements of music performance and knowledge students have learned during class and at home. It is important for students not only to perform at concerts, but to watch the performance of other hardworking ensemble groups. All students in Orchestra are required to attend the concerts their group is performing, and must stay for the duration of the concert to appreciate, support, and evaluate the hard work of other student groups.
Concert Dates
A copy of important and required concert dates and events is given to students at the beginning of the school year. Additionally, the River Trail Middle “Wolf Den News” will publish concert dates a few weeks prior to the concert. It is important for students and parents to check personal calendars and notify in advance private lesson teachers, coaches, team mates, tutors, tournament organizers, and others about school orchestra performances to prevent last minute conflicts.
Report time
Report times vary for each concert and for each performing group. The report time is the assigned time for the performing group to tune individual instruments and warm-up together as an ensemble. Students need to arrive fifteen minutes prior to the report time in order to unpack, rosin their bows, and collect their music.
Uniforms
How a group presents themselves to the audience indicates the dedication, professionalism, and respect of the performing ensemble to art of music performance. Most concerts require students to have a formal, orchestra uniform. The purpose of the uniform is to direct the attention of the audience to the music being performed by the ensemble and away from individual player’s outfits. Students must provide their own uniform and must follow the strict guidelines listed below
