River Trail Middle School Orchestra has had a steady number of talented students who have played the string instrument prior either through private lessons or from elementary school programs.
During the second week of orchestra, students who have played the string instrument will submit a video recording of themselves to Mr. Liu. Using the recordings, Mr. Liu will determine:
- If or when the student will need to return to the general orchestra class as the techniques being worked on will benefit the student
- Combing students into small ensemle groups based on technique level and working on music together
- Helping students craft a personal performance/technique growth plan for their instrument
Around late October or early November, both groups of students are brought back together as the focus moves towards large ensemble performance playing and techniques.
Non-Beginning students will need to know that many honor and youth orchestra groups including Fulton County Youth Orchestra and All-State Orchestra require students to be currently enrolled in the orchestra program. This includes students who plan to audition for the RTMS Chamber Orchestra (advanced orchestra) later in the spring.
