Beginning 6th Grade Pacing Outline

Beginning 6th Grade

This past Tuesday we have started in our Essential Elements Books with our beginning students as we learned holding the instrument, notes of the string, and basic parts of reading music. Once beginners have learned to use the bow, they will merge back with the non-beginning students for the remainder of the school year. From this point on, 6th grade students will focus on developing large group, ensemble performance skills including bow technique percision, balance, tone and blend, dynamics, and musical phrasing.

Non-Beginning 6th Grade

For non-beginners, I have finished watching their videos and placed them in smaller groups based on their music level. During this time, non-beginners will be working on individual and group performance projects with some non-beginners returning to the main orchestra class to improve specific areas in their technique identified in the video. All non-beginners will merge back with the main 6th Grade Orchestra class once beginners have learned to use the bow. From this point on, 6th grade students will focus on developing large group, ensemble performance skills including bow technique percision, balance, tone and blend, dynamics, and musical phrasing.
