I am so excited for those who are returning to RTMS Orchestra and those who are new to RTMS Orchestra as we start another exciting, and unique year in Orchestra. The biggest question everyone has is “what will orchestra look during Universal Remote Learning?”

Online learning in Orchestra provides a significant challenge in performing together as a large group. I am excited that this online format allows me to provide individualized attention and instruction for each student. This may be intimidating for some students at first as many are used to having someone else to play along.  With individualized attention, I feel this will be a great opportunity for each student to grow and develop a stronger confidence with his/her technique and performance.

This year, we need all students to have an instrument at home to practice. For the first few weeks, we will focus on specific performance techniques that will not require an instrument. As you know, we have a very limited number of school instruments available. I will let students know by the end of the week if we have an instrument available from the school, they may rent for home

Finally, we will be using TEAMs as our main classroom hub. The Orchestra TEAMs channel will contain information including lesson plans, announcements, resources, assignments, links, and due dates. We may be using other programs outside of TEAMs but information and links to those programs will still be found on the Orchestra TEAMs site. Information important for parents will be sent through email which may include an attachment or a link from the RTMS Orchestra website.
